“We took our 11 year old to this safety course. He will participate in the 4-H shooting sports, but their safety course was very basic. Those instructors only told us what they knew, instead of properly teaching. We went to FTS prior to the 4-H course, and Patrick at FTS actually taught us, and a lot! He transmitted his knowledge, teaching it, and instructing even with hands on experience! It was fun, no wasted time or fillers, straight to the point, and made sure we understand and are able to apply propper firearm safety. “I am not a firearms enthusiast. I started class sweating through my shirt, fighting back tears, and questioning why I'd signed up. I've lost both my dad and my sister to firearms: Choosing to spend hours learning about them was not easy. Patrick changed that. He didn't dismiss any of it. He embraced our personal journeys, as different as they were. The class was intentional, small, and never once made my hesitation feel like a problem. We didn't start with firearms… We started with awareness, de-escalation, and less-lethal options. That foundation mattered more than I expected. From there, he covered everything: When and how to act, defensive device anatomies, firearm ammunition, safe storage, transport, and the legal ownership process. Every question I had—including ones I didn't know to ask—was answered with grounded, genuine respect. After our lesson session, I decided firearm ownership isn't the right step for me at this moment. Possibly ironically: That's exactly why this experience was so valuable. I made that decision from understanding, not fear. We're already planning to continue our education: A children’s course for my niece and range time to keep building safe habits—regardless of where my personal decision lands. If you need a refresher in responsible gun handling or ownership, these courses are for you.
